Sales jobs to cater more for the over 65s

The retirement age could be scrapped, meaning that more people over 65 could be looking for sales recruitment opportunities.

According to the Equality and Human Rights Commission, the current retirement age of 65 is out of date and discriminates against people who want to keep working in their sales jobs.

The commission's deputy chairman, Lady Prosser, told BBC News that it would also make good businesses sense in a recession to recruit and retain older talent.

Currently, an employer can legally sack an employee when they reach 65, but with the state pension age set to rise to 66 in 2024, the commission said that flexible working schemes should be extended.

"Radical change is what older Britons are telling us needs to happen for them to stay in the workforce. Britain has experienced a skills exodus during the recession and as the economy recovers we face a very real threat of not having enough workers," added Lady Prosser.

She also commented that this has been further exacerbated by the skills lost by many older workers being forced to retire at 65.

Earlier this month, Labour deputy leader told sales recruitment hopefuls that the current retirement age is "arbitrary".
