More people turning to study to boost sales recruitment chance

More and more young people are turning to study instead of job seekers' allowance, boosting their chances of future success in sales recruitment.

Dr John Philpott, chief economic adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, said that the latest unemployment figures were good news on the face of things.

"The reason for the fall in unemployment in the quarter is a jump of 81,000 in the number of economically inactive students - indicating that ever-larger numbers of young people are turning to study to avoid the dole," he added.

Dr Philpott also said that there are now record numbers of people working part-time, including in sales jobs, with 1.03 million taking up this option as they are unable to find full-time positions.

Findings from the Office for National Statistics also showed that women are having more success in gaining sales recruitment. This is mainly because of a rise in the number of part-time jobs being available, according to Dr Philpott.

In other sales recruitment news, almost 800 young people in Bolton have become eligible for jobs, training or work experience this week as part of a government guarantee to getting people back into work.
