Manufacturing confidence 'translating into recruitment'

There is greater confidence in the manufacturing sector as orders begin to pick up and this is translating into increased recruitment, according to the latest report.

A survey carried out by EEF, the manufacturers' organisation, shows that UK firms are continuing to report buoyant trading conditions as a result of rising demand in overseas markets, which points to positive growth prospects in 2010.

Additionally, greater confidence across the sector is leading to the creation of more jobs as organisations point towards growth in the coming months.

Commenting on the findings, EEF chief economist Lee Hopley said manufacturers have continued to "reap the rewards" of growth in overseas markets, with the upswing being felt across all sectors and regions.

"Not only has this continued to translate into better employment prospects but the recovery in investment has begun much earlier in the cycle than after previous recessions," the expert explained.

It comes after Rosa Wilkinson, managing director of UKTI, recently said that there is not only a return to confidence across the business community in the UK, but across the whole of Europe.
